    The Happy Hunter

A hunter wandering through the trees
    Met a fair young maiden
He asked her if he could carry the wood
With which her arms were laden.

The maiden smiled at the gallant lad
And gave him her wood to carry
And when they reached her parents' home
    Invited him to tarry

The happy hunter walked through the wood
    Beneath the trees so shady
He whistled and he sang til the greenwoods rang
For he'd fallen in love with a lady

Many a time the hunter came
    Until at last, greatly daring,
He shyly declared his love for her
She replied with a smile so caring

The happy hunter walked through the wood
    Beneath the trees so shady
He whistled and he sang til the greenwoods rang
For he'd won the heart of a lady

Hunter and maiden will soon be wed
And work in the woods together
They'll gather wood and hunt for food
    And never mind the weather

The happy hunter walks through the wood
    Beneath the trees so shady
He whistles and he sings til the greenwood rings
All for the love of his lady

(To the tune of 'The Gypsy Rover')

Three years? Well, I suppose so. But was it worth waiting for? I have to confess I have been occupied in another place where one can actually play the music to go with one's songs. But there is a sad tale therewith which I will not bore you with!
